FAAN Amjad Mystery vs FAAN Qasida Bidaya: which FAAN perfume should you buy?

FAAN Amjad Mystery Extrait de Parfum 200 ml bottle

Quick answer: Amjad Mystery vs Qasida Bidaya is the rare comparison where the ratings tie: both are 200 ml Extraits, both rated 3 for strength and 4 for longevity. Mystery costs €54.99 and Bidaya €44.99, so the gap is 10 euros and the rest is a matter of taste. Choose Mystery for a smooth, nutty, floral amber. Choose Bidaya for dry spice, resin and a little leather.

Amjad Mystery comes from the Amjad line, Qasida Bidaya from the Qasida line. Both are listed for autumn and winter and for everyone. We are an independent retailer, and everything below comes from the notes and ratings on the product pages.

The verdict in three lines

  • Mystery is sweeter, creamier, and has flowers in the heart.
  • Bidaya is drier, spicier, and has no flowers at all.
  • If you cannot decide, the one that sounds odd to you is probably the one to try: hazelnut for Mystery, leather for Bidaya.

They share saffron and vanilla, but in different places. Saffron is the first thing you smell in Bidaya and sits in the heart of Mystery. Vanilla is a plain note in Mystery and vanilla bean in Bidaya, which is a little drier and darker. Only Mystery has pear, hazelnut, frankincense, rose, jasmine, osmanthus, sandalwood, ambergris and akigalawood. Only Bidaya has bergamot, cardamom, opoponax, cedarwood, benzoin, leather and white musk.

First hour and dry-down

Mystery starts juicy and nutty. Pear and roasted hazelnut come first, with a thread of frankincense smoke. The heart blooms into rose and saffron with jasmine and osmanthus, a warm floral that never turns perfumey. The base is sandalwood and vanilla over ambergris. Smooth and amber-like.

Bidaya starts with saffron, bergamot and cardamom, a golden, cool spice. The heart is opoponax, a sweet balsamic resin, held dry by cedarwood. Then comes vanilla bean and benzoin with a thin edge of leather. The warmth builds slowly instead of arriving at once.

Strength and staying power

Identical numbers, so no tiebreaker here. Strength 3 out of 5 means people close to you will notice it, not the whole room. Longevity 4 out of 5 means it lasts well into the evening. As a typical range for an Extrait, expect most of a working day on skin and longer on clothes. That is a general figure, not a test result. Two sprays on either is plenty.

Season, occasion, audience and price

Both are unisex and both are listed for autumn and winter. Mystery adds date nights and special occasions. Bidaya lists evenings and special occasions. In practice there is little to separate them: coat weather, dinner, a night out.

Mystery costs €54.99, about 27.5 cents a ml, and Bidaya costs €44.99, about 22.5 cents a ml. With the same ratings, Bidaya is the cheaper way in. If the smell is what you want, the 10 euros is a small thing next to wearing the one you enjoy.

Who should pick which

  • Choose Mystery if you like sweet-and-nutty, gentle florals, or you want something that reads as soft and warm from the first spray.
  • Choose Bidaya if you like dry spice, incense-like resin and leather, or you find flowers in perfume too sweet.
  • Look elsewhere if you want fresh. Amjad Coral costs as much as Bidaya, €44.99, and is the lightest bottle.
