Which FAAN perfume to choose: a simple guide

FAAN Qasida Purity 200 ml Eau de Parfum bottle

Fourteen bottles is a lot to choose from. Some are sweet. Some are smoky. Some are fresh. This guide asks a few simple questions and points you to a bottle. No quiz, no fluff. Read the headings, find the one that sounds like you, and click through.

We are an independent retailer of FAAN fragrances. The two lines are Qasida (nine bottles) and Amjad (five bottles). Every bottle is 200 ml. Notes come from the product pages.

Start with what you like

You like sweet, warm scents

Go for Qasida Signature: praline, vanilla, cinnamon and amber. If you want it darker, with cherry and coffee, take Qasida Queen. For something sweet and a little nutty, take Amjad Mystery.

You like smoke, incense and leather

Take Qasida Bakhour for incense and saffron. Take Qasida Dunes for pepper and leather. Take Amjad Honour for frankincense and oud.

You like fresh and clean

Take Amjad Coral: pear, mandarin, ginger and cedar. For floral and creamy, take Qasida Purity.

You like fruit

For her, Qasida Senses has pear, raspberry and peony. For him, Qasida Sahm opens with mango and mandarin, then turns to oud.

You like quiet and dry

Take Qasida Al-Badr: iris, sage, cedarwood and vetiver.

Choose by season

  • Autumn and winter: Signature, Queen, Bakhour, Dunes, Bidaya, Honour, Kingdom, Mystery.
  • Spring and summer: Coral, Senses, Purity.
  • Between seasons: Al-Badr, Sahm.

Choose by strength

Each product page rates projection (how far it travels) and longevity (how long it lasts) from 1 to 5. These are our ratings, not lab numbers.

  • Soft and close (projection 2 to 3): Purity, Al-Badr, Senses, Coral, Signature, Sahm, Bidaya, Mystery.
  • Loud (projection 4): Queen, Bakhour, Dunes, Honour, Kingdom.
  • Longest lasting (5): Honour and Kingdom.

Choose by moment

  • Office: Al-Badr, Purity, Coral.
  • Dinner: Signature, Bakhour, Sahm.
  • Date night: Queen, Mystery. See the date night guide.
  • Special occasions: Honour, Kingdom, Bidaya.

EDP or Extrait?

Most of the Qasida line is Eau de Parfum. The Amjad line, plus Qasida Bidaya, is listed as Extrait de Parfum. Extrait has more fragrance oil. It sits closer to the skin, lasts longer and needs fewer sprays. EDP is a little lighter and a little more airy. Neither is better. They are just different tools.

If you can only have one

The safest all-rounder is Qasida Signature. It is sweet, warm, unisex and easy to like. The most distinctive is Amjad Honour. The easiest for daily wear is Qasida Al-Badr.

If you are buying for someone else, the gift guide may help more. To see an entire line at once, open the Qasida collection or the Amjad collection.

Comparing two bottles

These pairs come up often. Here is the short answer for each.

  • Signature or Queen? Signature is sweet and spicy with praline and almond. Queen is darker, with cherry and coffee. Signature is easier to wear; Queen is more dramatic.
  • Honour or Kingdom? Honour is smoky and spicy with frankincense and saffron. Kingdom is cooler and powdery with violet and ambergris. Both last very long.
  • Bakhour or Dunes? Bakhour is rose, incense and leather. Dunes is pepper, patchouli and leather. Bakhour is rounder; Dunes is drier.
  • Purity or Senses? Purity is creamy and white-floral, and sits close. Senses is fruity and floral, with more sparkle.
  • Al-Badr or Sahm? Al-Badr is quiet and dry. Sahm has fruit up front and oud in the base.

For a deeper look, read the guides to Amjad Honour, Qasida Sahm and Qasida Signature.

Three quick rules

One: if you like sweet food, start with Signature or Queen. Two: if you like woods and incense, start with Honour or Bakhour. Three: if you want something you can wear every day without thinking, start with Al-Badr. If none of these sounds right, work through the headings above and choose by season.
