Best FAAN perfumes for spring and summer

Most of the FAAN range is built for cold weather. That is a fact, and we will not pretend otherwise. But a few bottles are light enough for warm days, and a few more work in spring. This guide picks them out.

How heat changes perfume

Skin is warmer in summer, so scent evaporates faster and projects further. A heavy amber that is cosy in January can feel thick in July. The rule is simple: choose fresh, fruity or clean notes, and spray less.

Citrus, pear, ginger, white flowers and clean musks all stay pleasant when it is warm. Resins, oud and sweet gourmand notes tend not to.

The summer picks

Amjad Coral

FAAN Amjad Coral is listed for spring and summer, daily wear and the office. Pear, bergamot, mandarin and ginger open it. Orange blossom and georgywood form the heart. Ambrofix, musk, akigalawood and cedar give a clean, woody base. It is the freshest bottle in the whole range.

Qasida Senses

FAAN Qasida Senses is written for her and listed for spring and summer. Jasmine, pear, bergamot and raspberry open it. Peony, damask rose, iris and lily of the valley make a floral heart. White musk and sandalwood finish. Fruity and floral, with a soft vanilla in the background.

Qasida Purity

FAAN Qasida Purity is listed for spring and autumn. Pear, fig nectar and lily of the valley give a juicy opening. Ylang-ylang, sambac jasmine and tuberose make the heart creamy and white. Cashmere musk, sandalwood milk and vanilla stay close to the skin. Its projection rating is 2 out of 5, the lowest in the range, so it suits close company and quiet rooms.

Qasida Al-Badr

FAAN Qasida Al-Badr is dry and powdery. Iris, sage and cedarwood are the centre, with bergamot and cardamom on top. Listed for autumn, winter and spring. A good bridge between seasons.

Qasida Sahm

How to wear scent in the heat

Spray one or two times, not four.
Spray the back of the neck or the clothes, not under a hot collar.
Keep the bottle out of the car and away from sunlight. Heat damages perfume faster than anything else.
Store it in a cool place when you are not using it.

What not to buy for summer

Be honest with yourself. If you love Honour or Kingdom, wear them in autumn. If you want to wear them in summer anyway, use one spray on a shirt and nothing on skin. The best FAAN perfumes for autumn and winter are a better home for the heavy ones.

Day to evening

Summer days are long. A fresh scent in the morning can fade by dinner. Carry a small atomiser with a few sprays of your bottle, or reapply on clothes, not skin. In the evening, a little more warmth works well. Qasida Purity has vanilla and sandalwood milk at the base, so it gets softer rather than fading away.

If the evening is cool, you can move up a notch. Sahm and Al-Badr hold well in a light jacket.

A simple summer routine

In the morning, one spray on the neck after your shower. At lunch, nothing. In the evening, one more spray on your clothes if you are going out. That is three sprays across a whole hot day, and it is enough. Heat and humidity make a scent feel stronger to you, so trust that it is still there even when your nose says it is gone.
