What "inspired by" means on this page

When a bottle page names another perfume as its inspiration, it points to the perfume that sparked the idea. It does not say the two are the same. They come from different makers, with different formulas, and you should expect differences.

Amjad Honour on its own

Judge the bottle you can actually buy. Here is the pyramid.

• Top: frankincense, elemi, cardamom, lemon, Sichuan pepper
• Heart: patchouli, rose, saffron, orange blossom, geranium
• Base: vanilla, amber, oud, ambergris, benzoin

The listed accords are amber, woody, spicy and resinous. In plain words: it opens with a clean, smoky resin and a little lemon, with a tingle from the Sichuan pepper. Saffron and rose arrive in the heart, held in place by patchouli. The base is warm amber and vanilla over oud and ambergris. It is dry-sweet, not sugary.

What you can check about Amouage Outlands

If you came here searching for that perfume, you probably know it, or you want to. Do three things.

• Read its own page for the notes list and the concentration. Take the facts from there, not from us.
• Smell it, if you can, and write down what you notice in the first ten minutes and after three hours.
• Compare that with the Honour notes above, one note at a time.

We will not guess at the other perfume's notes. A wrong guess would mislead you.

Alike or different? What we can and cannot tell you

We can say what is in Honour. We cannot say how close it is to something we do not describe. Anyone who promises a match from a name alone is selling you a guess.

What you can do is use the idea as a pointer. If a smoky resin with saffron and amber is what drew you to the original, read the Honour notes and see whether that map appeals. If it does, there is a good chance you will enjoy the bottle on its own terms. If it does not, no comparison will fix that.

Concentration, longevity and price in practice

Honour is an Extrait de Parfum in a 200 ml bottle, and it costs €44.99. Projection is 4 out of 5 and longevity is 5 out of 5, the top rating in the range.

In practice that means two sprays are enough. On skin, an Extrait of this kind typically lasts most of a working day and an evening. That is a typical range for the concentration, not a lab figure. Clothes hold the resinous base longer.

At €44.99 for 200 ml, the cost per spray is small. The price per ml across the FAAN range puts it next to the other bottles.

Who should choose which

• Choose FAAN Amjad Honour if you like smoky resin, saffron and amber, you want 200 ml, and you are happy to judge a perfume on its own notes.
• Choose the original if you specifically want that house's bottle. Check its size and price on its own page.
