Shared by name: bergamot, ginger, cedar and musk. Those four give them a family resemblance: a bright start, a dry middle and a clean wood and musk finish. Past that the two part ways. Sahm adds a whole layer of fruit, aromatic lavender and sage, and a dark base. Coral stays light.

From first spray to dry-down

Coral opens with pear, bergamot, mandarin and ginger. It is crisp. The heart is orange blossom and Georgywood, and the base is Ambrofix, musk, Akigalawood and cedar. It ends clean and woody.

Sahm opens with a bowl of fruit: mango, lemon, raspberry, green mandarin, with ginger for dryness. After half an hour lavender, clary sage, jasmine and cedar give a barbershop feel, and blue coumarin smooths the join. The base is oud, nagarmotha, leather accord, vetiver and wolfwood, with musk and amber. Where Coral keeps its mood from start to finish, Sahm changes character.

Strength and staying power

Both are rated 3 out of 5 for projection. Longevity is 3 for Coral and 4 for Sahm. Those are our ratings, not lab numbers. At the same projection, you get roughly the same reach, but Sahm stays on longer, mostly because of oud and leather in its base. Coral is the Extrait and Sahm the Eau de Parfum, which shows that the base notes matter as much as the concentration.

Season, occasion, audience and price

  • Season: Coral, spring and summer. Sahm, autumn and spring.

Who should pick which

Choose Coral if you want a simple, fresh scent for work and warm days, if you do not like oud or leather, or if you want to spend 12 euros less. Choose Sahm if you want a scent with a story, if you want it to last into the evening, or if you like fruit and oud together. Both are polite enough for an office, but only Sahm is dressed for dinner. To go deeper, read the Qasida Sahm review and the Amjad Coral review.
