How long does FAAN Amjad Coral last? Wearing time, projection and how to stretch it

FAAN Amjad Coral is one of our best sellers and the fresh one of the Amjad line. It is an Extrait de Parfum, yet it is built bright, so it does not wear like the heavy resin bottles. The hour figures below are typical ranges for the concentration, not lab numbers.

The ratings: longevity 3/5, projection 3/5

Both ratings come from the product page. Longevity 3 out of 5 means a clear scent for a good part of the day, not a full day. Projection 3 out of 5 means people near you notice it, and a colleague at the next desk might, but it does not fill a room.

A typical Extrait wears roughly six to ten hours. A 3 puts Coral in the lower half of that. Compare it with Amjad Honour, rated 5 out of 5 for longevity, and you can hear the difference between a bright scent and a deep one.

What in the pyramid holds it on skin

The top is pear, bergamot, mandarin and ginger. Those are light, small molecules and they leave first, usually within the first hour. The heart is orange blossom and Georgywood, a dry woody material.

The base is where the staying power lives: Ambrofix, musk, Akigalawood and cedar. Ambrofix is a modern amber-woody material, Akigalawood adds a dry, slightly peppery wood, musk gives the clean skin feel, and cedar is pencil-shaving dry. There is no resin and no oud in there, so the dry-down is quiet and clean rather than thick. That is why Coral changes from bright to soft instead of vanishing.

How long does Amjad Coral last on skin and on clothes?

• Skin: about five to seven hours of clear scent in normal conditions, then a faint musky wood close to the skin for a while longer.
• Clothes: fabric holds woods and musk well. A spray on a shirt or scarf can still be noticeable the next morning.

Skin is warm and the scent moves. Fabric is cool and the scent sits. Use both.

Weather, skin type and sprays: what changes

Heat makes a fresh scent louder for a short time and then shorter overall. In July, Coral may feel strong in the first hour and gone by the afternoon. In cool spring air it stays closer and lasts a little longer. Dry skin drinks perfume, so it fades sooner on dry skin than on oily skin. Three to four sprays suit this bottle. More sprays make it louder, not longer.

Five ways to stretch it

1. Spray after a shower on moisturised skin. An unscented lotion gives the musk something to hold on to.
2. Put one of your sprays on clothes, from about 20 cm away, on a shirt, scarf or the inside of a jacket collar.
3. Spray the chest and the back of the neck, then leave it. Do not rub, because rubbing breaks the top notes.
4. Split the sprays across two or three places instead of piling them on one.
5. Keep the bottle in a cool, dark place. Heat dulls the citrus first, and a bright scent depends on its top.

When and where to reapply

Coral suits the office, and a single top-up is enough. Around lunch, add one spray on a shirt or scarf, not on the neck again.
