Layering FAAN Amjad Honour with FAAN Amjad Coral: resin with a bright lift

FAAN Amjad Honour Extrait de Parfum 200 ml bottle

Quick answer: To layer Amjad Honour and Amjad Coral, spray Coral on skin first and Honour on a scarf or collar afterwards, two sprays of Coral to one of Honour. The idea is resin with a bright lift: Coral's pear, mandarin and clean wood over Honour's frankincense, saffron and oud. This is our own suggestion, not a rule from the maker, so try it on a card before you wear it out.

Both bottles are Extraits in 200 ml, both from the Amjad line, and they sit at opposite ends of it. FAAN Amjad Honour is deep, with projection 4 and longevity 5. FAAN Amjad Coral is fresh, with 3 and 3. One of the two is the dark room, the other is the open window.

Why this pair and what it is aiming for

Honour on its own can feel heavy in the first minutes: smoky frankincense, lemon and Sichuan pepper. Coral on its own can feel too thin after a few hours. Together, Coral should lift the opening of Honour, and Honour should give Coral a tail it does not have by itself. Think of it as a woody, citrus-bright resin: a cold-weather scent that does not suffocate.

What each brings

Honour Coral
Top Frankincense, elemi, cardamom, lemon, Sichuan pepper Pear, bergamot, mandarin, ginger
Heart Patchouli, rose, saffron, orange blossom, geranium Orange blossom, Georgywood
Base Vanilla, amber, oud, ambergris, benzoin Ambrofix, musk, Akigalawood, cedar

Orange blossom is the only shared note, and it sits in the heart of both. That is the thread that ties the two together. Everything else is contrast: citrus against resin, clean wood against oud, musk against ambergris.

How to layer Amjad Honour and Amjad Coral: order, sprays, spacing

  1. Two sprays of Coral on skin: one at the back of the neck, one on the chest.
  2. Wait five minutes, then add one spray of Honour on a scarf, a collar or the inside of a jacket.
  3. Do not go above three sprays in total.

Coral goes first and gets the larger share because Honour is stronger in both projection and longevity. If you reverse the ratio, the resin swallows the pear and you are wearing Honour with a pinch of citrus. Which can be fine, but it is a different goal.

What you should smell at one hour and at six

These are expectations built from the notes, so check on your own skin.

  • At one hour: pear and mandarin in front, ginger and cardamom touching, and a smoky shadow of frankincense behind. Citrus is doubled, lemon from Honour plus bergamot and mandarin from Coral, so this stage smells very bright.
  • At six hours: Coral has largely gone, because its longevity is 3. What is left is Honour, with a clean wood cast from the Ambrofix and cedar: vanilla, amber, oud and benzoin, cooler than Honour alone.

So the pair works in two acts: bright at first, resinous later.

Where it clashes or turns heavy

  • Two citrus openings can add up to a sharp, soapy first ten minutes. If it bites, use less Honour.
  • Pear and frankincense can sound odd together for a minute. If they still sound odd after twenty minutes, wash it off and pick one bottle.
  • On a hot day the resin side expands and the freshness gets crushed. The mix does not suit midsummer, which is also true of Honour in summer.

Wearing it: season and occasion

The sweet spot is a mild day in autumn or spring: a smart-casual dinner, an evening at the office party, a long lunch in a cool restaurant. Coral is listed for spring and summer, Honour for autumn and winter, so the overlap is the shoulder seasons. FAQ

Can you layer two FAAN perfumes?

Yes. We suggest testing on a card first and using fewer sprays than you would alone.

Which one first, Honour or Coral?

Coral first, on skin, with two sprays. Honour second, on fabric, with one.

Does layering them make Coral last longer?

Partly. The Honour on your scarf will outlast the Coral on your skin, so what lasts is the resin side.
